Cincinnati Wedding Magazine selected three local venues and invited three of our most talented event planners to put together a team of vendors that would create a bridal installation that represented the character of each venue. We had the honor to be invited to participate by Dora Manuel, owner at Viva Bella Events, fro whose clients we have designed many gorgeous and super delicious cakes! All three venues selected by the magazine were beautiful and are places for which we regularly deliver cakes before, but not to the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center! You may know by now that I am an architect by trade! The CAC was designed by the renowned architect Saha Hadid, and is an architecture jewel within the urban fabric of this beautiful city. It's overall architecture and interior design is pretty contemporary and stark, with the use of industrial looking materials, juxtaposed with smooth and reflective materials. The magazine sent us a few questions to collect quotes for the feature, Below you can find our answers! Describe your inspiration for the cake?. What was the overall look you were trying to achieve? Our goal for the design of this cake was to create a modern art, chic and sleek graphic cake; one that appealed to a bride thinking outside the box, and a cake that complimented in a glamorous way the industrial feel of the Contemporary Art Center space. Tell us about some of the materials you used and how they achieved the desired look. In order to achieve a modern look, we used a simple cake configuration that incorporated the usage of innovative edible materials and techniques, like wafer paper, food grade real silver leaf, and edible ink printing. Our edible ink printing process allowed us to add cool patterns to wafer paper which was transformed into a collage, as well as in the creation of graphic wafer paper ranunculus flowers. Black roses and poppies created from custom made sugar paste added drama to the composition of the cake. Finally, were there any surprises during the process? Something that didn’t work? A plan that changed? There were really not any surprises during our design process or execution of this creative challenge. On the contrary, this was a smooth an enriching exercise were each one of us fed from the ideas and perspectives of each other. This is the beauty of assembling a team of trusted talented collaborative professionals! |
