rococo wedding cake - wedding cakes cincinnati
We were thrilled to receive an invitation by Cake Central Magazine to design a "Purple Rococo Wedding Cake" for an upcoming issue, and now we are beyond thrilled to see one of our cakes featured on their pretty pages:). This issue is filled with gorgeous cakes designed by some of the most creative and talented Pastry Chefs in this Industry. It's a true honor to be in company of such amazing professionals!
I have to extend a huge thank you to my dear friend and super talented photographer Sherri Barber owner at Sherri Barber Photography, for taking the time to photograph this cake, and to Jennifer Noll from All Occasions Rentals and Events for allowing me to use there fabulous pieces!
On this creative challenge, we followed the same process that we follow for all our custom designs, specially on our custom wedding cakes. Inspiration, Design, design Revision and Execution.
1. Inspiration: The initial phase of this process is collecting all the imagery that will help us define the direction of an order. I create a collage of images that accompany my sketch designs! design process
2. Design:
Once all reference images are collected; then proceed to Sketch!. The many years in the world of Architecture play an important role in this phase of the process...I basically do the same that I would have to to present architecture designs to clients, contractors or to a design team. Often times and depending on the order and budget, I draw variations of a theme, different cake configurations and even opposite ideas, with the goal of providing material for brainstorming!. For real orders, these variations offer different price points for chose from. I know for sure that this is my client's favorite part of the process!
It's always fun to see the finished cakes alongside the original design...for some reason, our cakes are always taller and grander!
3. Execution:
I had in mind a watercolor, hand painted look for this cake...but didn't have the time to commit hours and hours of work! So I decided to keep all the hand painting blurred, but clear enough so that you could identify shapes. I loved the color hue we used on this cake...this blue-purple combination reminded me of so many French paintings and decorative artifacts!
We submitted different looks and settings for the feature, these two where my favorite two!
Thank you for taking the time to read these lines, and for following our work. |
